Front-end Developer
More info...At Colorifix, we engineer microorganisms that produce pigments for the textile industry. While we have a strong scientific team at the core, we complement our R&D activities with the development of software tools to assist the scientists.
We have an exciting opportunity for a front end / UI developer to join our informatics division. The job will involve designing and implementing user interfaces for a broad range of applications, including inventory and workflow management, data analysis, control of scientific/industrial equipment.At Colorifix, we foster a culture of collaboration, openness and transparent communication. The informatics division works towards equipping Colorifix labs with cutting-edge technology for data collection and analysis. We think about how to gather data from both people and lab equipment, how to organise and analyse that data, and finally how to present it to the scientists in a meaningful way that helps provide deeper insights into their research.
We are building an in-house platform that standardises all our data models and helps us to keep track of all the data analysis steps. We now need your help to add the best possible UI experience to the platform.
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about both designing and implementing web user interfaces. You will be our chief UI expert leading front end development. Day-to-day activities will include:
– Gathering UI specifications from end-users
– Implementing UI for particular user activities following specifications
– Creating reusable components
– Optimising and testing UI
– Expert in UI + front end. It will be you teaching us how to do UI, not the other way around
– Experience with JS + front end libraries
– Experience or interest in Vue
– Experience with Python
– Experience or interest working with MacOS/Linux (Windows goes out of the window)
– Good DevOps practices, including proficiency in Git
Bonus requirements:
– Experience developing UI for data analysis and bioinformatics tools
– Interest in biotech
– Experience with UI testing, e.g. Selenium

(Upstream) Bioprocess Engineer
More info...As part of the Implementation Team, the upstream bioprocess engineer will play an integral role in developing and commercialising the Colorifix process. The Implementation team works with a number of global dye houses (the clients) that provide services to the international fashion and textile industries. In order to integrate our technology into their existing processes, they either need to purchase and set up fermentation equipment at their facilities or use the services of local contract fermentation companies to provide them with Colorifix dye liquor. With in-house fermentation development the bioprocess engineer will be Colorifix’s lead in engaging with client engineers for the installation of Colorifix equipment. Given that this is a novel technology in this context, the bioprocess engineer will help to advise management teams of client dye houses regarding the Colorifix process their options for integrating it into their existing operations. The role will require the bioprocess engineer to work closely with other specialists within the implementation team, with backgrounds in fermentation, GM regulations and safety, as well as Colorifix’s CEO and CSO, who invented the technology.
The role will require regular travel to Europe in the immediate term which will expand to Asia over the next few years.
Essential skills and experience:
- Postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience in bioprocess manufacturing or pilot plant environment.
- Excellent communicator and flexible team player that is comfortable with direct engagement of commercial clients and their engineering teams (or engineering contractors).
- Hands-on experience with upstream bioprocessing involving the use of microorganisms, that covers bioreactor commissioning, operation and control, seed train development, CIP/SIP, etc.
- Experience of troubleshooting upstream bioprocess activities at manufacturing or pilot scale.
Desirable skills
- Previous experience of engaging with contract manufacturing organisations (CMOs) specialising in microbial fermentation and successful delivery on manufacturing contracts.
- Experience in transitioning process improvements from an R&D setting into a pilot or commercial manufacturing setting.
- Experience in project management and in-direct management of multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals (potentially with qualifications in project management, e.g., PRINCE2 or PMP).
- Experience with preparing process and engineering data for use in life cycle assessments.
- Experience with the use of Six Sigma to make process improvements in a manufacturing environment.

ApplySenior Fermentation Scientist (Pilot plant)
More info...As part of the Dye house production team, the Senior Fermentation Scientist will play an integral role in the day-to-day operations of Colorifix’s demonstration plant in Cambridge, UK. The demonstration plant seamlessly integrates Colorifix’s entire process from dye production via fermentation through to industrial dyeing and finally to fabric finishing. The Senior Fermentation Scientist will be responsible for the operation of pilot scale and demonstration fermentation systems whose products will be used by the dye team for small scale dyeing runs. The senior scientist will also be the dye house’s interface with the company’s R&D teams and be expected to lead and assist with the technology transfer of new strains and process improvements from the laboratory to pilot scale. Longer term the role may include having oversight of bench-scale fermentations systems for process development work at the Cambridge site. The role will also include the day-to-day management of junior fermentation scientists and/or technicians.
Essential skills and experience:
- Postgraduate degree (ideally PhD) in microbiology, bioprocess development or relevant biological sciences discipline.
- 2 – 5 years of relevant work experience in a fermentation development role, ideally at pilot scale.

- Hands-on experience with bioprocess development and optimisation ideally including the use of statistical methodologies to improve key process parameters (e.g. DOE).

- Experience of troubleshooting upstream bioprocess activities at lab and/or pilot scale.

Microbiological Safety Specialist
More info...We seek to hire a highly motivated and experienced Microbiological Safety Specialist to be part of our Implementation Team, which will play a key role in client onboarding. Specifically, we are working with a number of dye houses (the clients) across Europe that provide services to the international fashion and textile industries. In order to integrate our technology into their existing processes, they need to purchase and set up fermentation equipment at their facilities, or alternatively contract fermentation companies locally to provide an outsourced fermentation service to them. Given that this is a previously unused technology in this context, and that the output will be genetically modified organisms which are then used in their existing dyeing equipment, the Microbiological Safety Specialist will take the lead in advising management teams of client dye houses on a number of areas. These include how to set up correctly and follow all necessary safety procedures as well as how to make adaptations to the plant where necessary. This person will work in tandem with other specialists from our Implementation Team, whose expertise will be in GM regulation and fermentation.
