Role description:
Colorifix is made up of people who firmly believe that sustainable practices are key to creating a balance between mankind and the earth. We are looking for a full time Administrative Assistant/Receptionist who believes in our core values for our pilot facility in North Cambridge, to help with administrative support to the growing team there and also act as point of contact for visitors, deliveries etc. and interact with all departments company wide both UK and globally. You will be reporting directly to the Administration Lead and work closely day to day with the Dyehouse Lead.
We have a unique product and process, and whilst we grow so will your role and knowledge base. Your role will be busy but diverse, including (but not limited to) reception duties, ordering and recording supplies, meeting room management, liaising with service suppliers, assisting with any day-to-day tasks as required and being the site point of contact for the offsite Administration Lead.

Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:
● Perform stocktaking, purchase requisitions, filing, and data entry.
● Manage clerical tasks, including file management, maintaining records, handling deliveries, and managing incoming calls.
Reception Duties:
● Welcome visitors and handle deliveries.
● Answer and direct phone calls, providing excellent customer service.
Meeting Room Coordination:
● Manage diaries and schedule meetings.
● Book meeting rooms and ensure they are prepared with necessary materials and refreshments.
Travel Arrangements:
● Supervise both international and domestic travel arrangements to ensure seamless corporate travel experiences.
Recruitment Support:
● Help with the recruitment life cycle, including job advertising, resume screening, interview scheduling, and induction coordination.
Communication and Coordination:
● Facilitate communication and coordination with external vendors, contractors, and internal departments like finance, HR, and marketing.
● Maintain the organisational chart, website, and utility bills tracker accurately and up to date.
Compliance and Safety:
● Enforce NDA protocols for all visitors to the site, ensuring compliance with security measures.
● Assist the Health and Safety department by conducting weekly fire alarm tests.
Event Coordination:
● Coordinate events such as annual retreats, Christmas parties, and client/investor visits.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

● Educated to A-Level or equivalent.
● Proven experience in an administrative role.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), G-Suite, Slack, Adobe, and other company and role-specific software.
● Strong organisational and time management skills.
● You have an interest in and awareness of environmental sustainability.
● You have an interest in textiles and fashion.
● Ability to speak a 2nd language would be an advantage.

Health and Safety Officer

Role Description:

The Health and Safety Officer will play an integral role in supporting the day-to-day operations across all UK Colorifix sites. The successful candidate will be required to co-ordinate, support and advise the business on all aspects with regards to Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance. To establish, and monitor standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety across the company. The ideal candidate should be looking for a new challenge in a fast-moving, collaborative environment and has significant experience in Health and Safety that spans both laboratory and large-scale industrial situations. This exciting role will be cross-disciplinary, working with synthetic biologists, fermentation scientists, dye-house specialists, engineers, analytical scientists and informaticians.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

● Reporting to Management, act as Company Health & Safety Officer supporting the creation, implementation, development, monitoring, and review of safety arrangements at Colorifix.
● Monitoring and enforcement of compliance within Colorifix’s local safety rules and statutory safety requirements.
● Responsible for the creation, communication, and implementation of safety initiatives.
● Work with any external advisors to ensure Colorifix is working to current best practice for health and safety.
● Act as chair of the Safety Committee reporting to management and contribute towards Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) & Biological and Chemical Safety Committees
● Training research staff so that they can operate effectively and safely in the laboratory and at the pilot-plant scale of operation.
● Full in-house auditing of H&S systems, training and Colorifix sites etc.

Role Requirements:

● Holds a NEBOSH qualification and knowledge of working to ISO45001.
● Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology is desirable
● 2-3 years’ experience working in a Health and Safety role, ideally in an industrial dyeing or biotechnology company with sound knowledge of the principles of good laboratory practice and good occupational safety.
● An in depth understanding of legislation underpinning health and safety at work including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and COSHH regulations.
● Excellent communicator and flexible team player that is comfortable working with and being the interface across different divisional teams.
● Highly organised with a strong attention to detail, with the ability to plan, design and have fixed deadlines.
● Experience of troubleshooting with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
● Knowledge or experience of EU Health & Safety standards would be an advantage.
● Biological safety knowledge an advantage but additional training can be given.

Context and role description:

Colorifix has a unique operation and business model with strong R&D and production components, and with informatics permeating the company. Therefore, we like to build our own bespoke software tools to help the business run. We’re searching for an inspiring and experienced Head of Informatics to manage our talented team of software developers, data scientists, and engineers in building creative and flexible solutions that will significantly impact our business.

Informatics is a growing division at Colorifix. It is responsible for supporting R&D but increasingly now there is an emphasis for internal and customer-facing high reliability, high availability production systems. Areas of responsibility span software engineering, data analysis, hardware integration, IT and related support.

Our development team embraces agility, incorporating elements from both Agile and Shape Up methodologies. We work in short sprints followed by evaluation and improvement. Python and Vue.js are use for back-end and front-end development respectively, Python for data analysis and C/C++ for embedded systems.

GitLab is our central hub, housing our code, package and image repositories, and automated deployment pipelines through CI/CD. We operate in a mixed development environment with a focus on MacOS and Linux, and both development and production environments use Docker containerisation, for consistency and streamlined deployment.

Informatics is a multidisciplinary team in which each member specialises in a particular discipline, but we enjoy working on projects together and learning from each other. We value initiative, desire to learn and a drive for exploration. Although the whole company is growing fast, it still has a start-up vibe. We are looking for the right fit to lead the team and foster collaboration, innovation and growth.
