Role description:

The Health and Safety Officer will play an integral role in supporting the day-to-day operations across all Colorifix
sites. The successful candidate will be required to co-ordinate, support and advise the business on all aspects with
regards to Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance. To establish, and monitor standards, processes,
communications, training, and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety across the
company. The ideal candidate should be looking for a new challenge in a fast-moving, collaborative environment
and has significant experience of Health and Safety that spans both laboratory and large scale industrial situations.
This exciting role will be cross-disciplinary, working with synthetic biologists, fermentation scientists, analytical
scientists and informaticians.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

● Act as Company Health & Safety Officer supporting the creation, implementation, development,
monitoring, and review of safety arrangements at Colorifix
● Monitoring and enforcement of compliance with Colorifix’s local safety rules and statutory safety
requirements.
● Responsible for the creation, communication, and implementation of safety initiatives.
● Work with our external advisors to ensure Colorifix is working to current best practise for health and
safety.
● Act as chair of the Safety Committee and contribute towards Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) &
Biological and Chemical Safety Committees
● Training research staff so that they can operate effectively and safely in the laboratory and also at the
pilot-plant scale of operation.
● Full inhouse auditing of H&S systems, training and Colorfix sites etc.
Role Requirements:
● Holds a NEBOSH qualification and knowledge of working to ISO45001.
● Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology.
● 2-3 years’ experience working in a Health and Safety role and ideally in an industrial dyeing or
biotechnology company with sound knowledge of the principles of good laboratory practice and good
occupational safety.
● An understanding of legislation underpinning health and safety at work including the Health and Safety at
Work Act 1974 and COSHH regulations.
● Excellent communicator and flexible team player that is comfortable working with and being the interface

across different divisional teams.
● Highly organised with a strong attention to detail, with the ability to plan, design and have fixed
deadlines.
● Experience of troubleshooting with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage several tasks
simultaneously.

Junior Implementation Specialist

As part of Implementation team, the junior implementation specialist will work together with our customers, bringing solutions to them and helping them to establish Colorifix technology on each site. They would be involved in the fermentor commissioning, demonstration tests (fermentation plus dye) at customers’ sites and client’s training onboarding on both laboratory and full-scale fermentation plus dye processes. Fermentation Process Assistant

Role description:
As part of the implementation team, the fermentation process assistant will work with the fermentation specialists to provide day-to-day operations of Colorifix’s fermentation process at its facility in Cambridge, UK. The fermentation site has a microbiological lab and both pilot and full-scale bioreactors used to scale-up the Colorifix’s fermentation process and produce dye liquor which will be applied on fabrics for dyeing runs. This will involve working closely with the dye team at Cambridge site, to coordinate work across the process. The fermentation process assistant will be responsible for preparing, running, and collecting data from the fermentation runs. This includes collecting samples and carrying out analysis, along with the subsequent data analysis and report writing, ensuring that batch records are maintained for all runs. The fermentation assistant will be expected to contribute to the maintenance and efficient running of the microbiological lab and fermentation site. They will be given responsibility for specific tasks and, after training, be expected to carry them out independently e.g., media preparation, bioreactor preparation and cleaning, sampling, sample processing and support in the data analysis.

● BSc in biological sciences, chemistry, or chemical engineering.

Role description:
We seek to hire a highly motivated R&D Chemist (Materials Chemistry) at Colorifix. The work content will involve investigations into applications of Colorifix science and evaluation of surface chemistry and potential modification. Candidates should have extensive knowledge and experience in materials and surface chemistry, preferably polymer or textile chemistry.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
● Investigating the chemistry of biomolecules as novel colorants
● Performing lab work to engage in the R&D process at Coloration Division
● Providing technical information and coordinating presentations when required
● Working across different divisions to facilitate the understanding of chemistries involved in Colorifix technology

Essential skills and experience:
● PhD in fields directly related to Materials or Surface Chemistry
● Your personality can be described as collaborative, entrepreneurial, proactive, responsible, result-driven and flexible.

Desirable skills and experience:

We are looking for a Coloration Technician for our pilot dye house in Cambridge. The Technician will gain practical experience of operating a dye house and expertise in our unique biology-based dye technology— this includes both textile coloration and industrial fermentation. The successful candidate may also be offered training which could lead to professional qualifications in this field.

We are looking for someone who is driven to learn new things and explore a real career opportunity in sustainable textile coloration. Responsibilitie
● Following and learning the operation (control of equipment and systems)
● Material preparation for processing
● Cross train on all machines for maximum flexibility
● Follow all health and safety rules and regulations
● Monitor inventory of dyehouse materials
● Carry out machine operations following the production plan in a timely manner
● Maintain cleanliness and operation of all the machines in the production area

Experience
● Educated to A-Level
● An interest in and awareness of environmental sustainability
● Good colour acuity/recognition
● Interest in textiles would be an advantage but not a requirement
