Media Kitchen Technician

As part of the team, the Media Kitchen Technician will play a vital role in providing a day-to-day service to the various Colorifix Research & Development teams on-site, across two sites on the Norwich Research Park, UK. The ideal candidate should be looking for a new challenge in a fast-moving, collaborative environment with a willingness to learn and the flexibility to adapt to and deal with changing exigencies. One of the primary functions of this role will involve the timely production of sterile microbial culture media for the research teams, thus requiring excellent attention to detail whilst being able to accurately follow SOPs and recipes to ensure standardisation. The Media Kitchen Technician will be responsible for the daily collection, processing and recording of biological waste streams for inactivation and disposal, alongside the collection and sterilisation of lab-ware for restocking. They will also be responsible for the maintenance and restocking of reagents and consumables across the labs, working closely with the lab manager to minimise disruption and ensure there are sufficient stocks of consumables and chemicals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
● Timely manufacture of media, sterile supplies, and antibiotic stocks for use in plates and bottled media, alongside pouring of plates
● Responsible person for collection of glassware from all laboratories for washing, sterilisation, and restocking
● Responsible person for collection and separation of laboratory waste streams for processing and disposal via the appropriate routes
● Operating autoclaves and Laboratory glass washer
● Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and servicing of laboratory equipment
● Work closely with the Lab Manager and Laboratory Operations Coordinator to maintain consumable and reagent stock levels for all laboratories
● Receive and distribute deliveries to the appropriate storage spaces
● Ensure regular turnover of clean lab coats (autoclave, wash & restock)
● Be organised and pay particular attention to housekeeping of the laboratory spaces
Essential skills and experience:

● Ability to repeatedly follow standard operating procedures to the correct standard

● Previous laboratory experience, ideally in a similar role

ApplyFermentation Technician

The Fermentation Technician will be part of the Fermentation Team, supporting R+D and day-to-day operations of the fermentation laboratory in Norwich. The technician will be responsible for ordering, and organising supplies, and maintaining equipment records. Assigned tasks will also include, preparation of working/master cell banks and fermentation seed trains, along with fermentor set up and sample processing (contamination checks, dry cell weight etc), all while following good lab practice. The nature of the work will mean that from time to time, this may include working over a weekend and with flexible hours. The role will involve coordinating work with other teams, therefore excellent record keeping and verbal communication skills are a necessity.
Essential skills and experience:
- BSc in biological sciences or similar, or 1-2 years relevant work experience in a microbiological laboratory environment.
- An understanding of basic microbiology culturing techniques and working with aseptic technique.
- Experience in the use of conventional laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifugation, microscope, spectrophotometer, pH meter).
- Experience of following standard operating procedures and record keeping
- Proactive in maintaining a well-stocked, clean and tidy lab environment.

As part of Implementation team, the junior implementation specialist will work together with
our customers, bringing solutions to them and helping them to establish Colorifix technology
on each site. They would be involved in the fermenter commissioning, demonstration tests
(fermentation plus dye) at customers’ sites and client’s training onboarding on both
laboratory and full-scale fermentation plus dye processes. They would also be responsible
for knowledge capturing at the full-scale production in each site, to bring back the important
