Colorifix is delighted to acknowledge funding from the European Commission, Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized enterprises as part of the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. The project (Proposal no. 873840) commenced in January 2020 and will finish in December 2022 with a financial contribution from the EU of 2.47 million Euros.
Colorifix aims to transform the textile and dyeing industries through the implementation of a sustainable, cost-effective, biologically driven dyeing technology. The concept is to eliminate the use of petrochemical derived chemicals and significantly reduce water and energy consumption during the dyeing process. The strategic goal of Colorifix is to have a disruptive, modern day process that can be adopted across the textile supply chain and provides sustainable, scalable and a cost effective dyeing technology.
The purpose of the H2020-EIC-SMEInst2018-2020 funding is to support Colorifix in the development and optimisation of ten natural pigments expressed in microbes and scaled in production. Grant money will support a purpose built and commissioned pilot plant marrying equipment use in technologies from large scale fermentation and dyeing to allow the biological dyeing of up to 100 metres of fabric per day. Sustainability and economic values will be validated by lifer cycle, standardisation certification analyses suitable for the dyeing and textile industries as they move towards a more sustainable and accountable way of life. EU funding will allow Colorifix take longer strides on the route to commercialisation with their customers.
